How do I submit my family information?

The Easy Way
For simple changes such as adding children, spouse, in-laws or spelling corrections:

(1) Locate your family in the Every Name Index

(2) Look for the following link near the bottom of the page.

Are we missing anything?   Please send me corrections

Clicking on the link will open up your e-mail composer and fill in the Subject line.
Example: Corrections to 01020306091203 Donald Clemont Allred

This tells me where to make the changes.

The Hard Way
To add an entire generation there is a form at http://www.AllredRoster.com/personal.htm

When making a submission please:

Clearly Identify Yourself
I like to know who's making the submission.
Use your Roster ID#. If you're in the Roster, an ID# has been already assigned.
Always use maiden names for females

Formats
Plain text e-mail (without any graphics)
Plain text file attachment (files created by WordPad or NotePad)
.RTF (Rich Text File) file attachment
 GEDCOM file
 Descendants chart
 Family group sheets
Do not use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS except for surnames - it's considered SHOUTING and hard to read
Do not attach files created by MS-Word or WordPerfect.
 Do not attach graphic files

Electronic files can be sent to: Don@AllredRoster.com

Hard copy submission can be sent to:
Don Allred
P.O. Box 56885
Sherman Oaks, CA 91413

What do you do with the information that is submitted?

Changes are made to an offline database as they are received. The offline database is used to build the online Every Name Index about once a week.

What is a Roster ID#?

Allred descendants are assigned a unique identifier.
This allows for positive identification since we have many duplicative names.
For example, my Roster ID# is (01020306091203).
Translation: Reading from right to left, I am the 3rd child of the 12th child of the 9th child of the 6th child of the 3rd child of the 2nd child etc.

What about privacy?

... do you have any more information on...

I get a lot of e-mail from folks that found a name or event in the Every Name Index and want to know if more information is available. It's a natural question to ask.

The short answer is: What we have is already on the website!

The main databases at AllredRoster.com (except photos) are actively maintained.
The Every Name Index (name searches) gets updated about once a week.
Family histories and obituaries are updated within 24 hours of submission.
I don't consider myself a genealogist.
I don't do genealogical research.
I don't have a cache of additional data to share.
I don't give out contact information.

How is the information documented?

Some is, some may not be. Anyone can contribute information to the Roster and, as you know, some folks are better at research and documentation than others. Documentation references are not required when you submit information - we simply trust everyone to submit accurate information. Don is the only person working to input information and maintain the Roster which he does on a voluntary basis. On any given day, Don may receive several hundred new listings and simply doesn't have the time or the resources to go behind everyone and "double-check" their information. So, for this reason, we encourage you to use the Roster as an information resource, then work to document the information yourself.

I'm new to Allred family history research. Is there someone I can contact for help or advise?

We don't have a list of Allred researchers on this Web site (yet) but for general questions, you can contact Linda Allred Cooper at lacooper@mindspring.com. She'll be glad to help if she can.

How do I find out where a person listed on the Roster is living?

As this information comes to us, we save it along with the name. This information helps us to better identify each person. However, we don't publish the address of a living person for privacy reasons.

How can I help the Roster project?

The short answer is send money. The Allred Family Roster is made possible by donations from family members. I can no longer afford to do this without your help. Please see Join the Roster for ways to send a donation.

Thank's for your support!
